About Us

Katherine Johnson Academy of Enriched Virtual Learning (KJ Academy) is an all virtual learning experience for approximately 100 students in 5K - 8th grade. Students receive instruction from virtual GBAPS licensed teachers. KJ Academy follows the District’s school calendar, the Board’s grading policy, and is open to students receiving special education or English Learner services. Students receive instruction in reading, writing, math, social studies, science, social/emotional learning, math and literacy interventions, physical education, art and music.

Technology
Students receive a touchscreen Chromebook, charger, and protective carrying case. Additional supplies like styluses and earbuds are available upon request. Personal hotspots are available for families upon request to assist with internet access.

Unique Aspects to the District’s Online Learning Model

KJ Academy has a physical location at 105 S. Buchanan Street. Teachers will have instructional studios that will enable them to provide a high quality educational experience for students. In addition, this will provide an opportunity for teachers to collaborate with one another.

Space will also be provided for in-person individual or small group instruction to assist students in curricular areas where they may be struggling to learn online. This will also allow for students who may need services such as occupational therapy, physical therapy, counseling, etc., to also enroll in online learning. Having a physical location will allow for parent/teacher conferences and other meetings to be held in-person.
